RHYTHM MASTER CLASS
EXPAND THE JAM

β€œIF YOU PAIRED THE WHOLE GUITAR TREE DOWN, IT WOULD COME DOWN TO FREEDY GREEN.”

- JIM HALL

what you will learn

  • IN THIS COURSE

I’ve come to love playing rhythm guitar just as much as improvising a solo. And, I remember well, in my early years, not having a clue as to how to play a supportive role - how to be a part of a β€œRhythm Section”. It’s an art unto itself. And perhaps the most important aspect of being a professional musician, or even just jamming with your friends.

  • TOOLS

The Dojo focuses a lot on chordal knowledge and in this course we put it to use. The guitar is perhaps the best of rhythm instruments: we can use very simple chord voicings to propel a singer or soloist without crowding them with big chords and a lot of single note business. Rhythm is the key aspect of the guitar, in my view. Here we look closely at my approach to the use of the principles of harmony, rhythm and economy.

  • JAMMING

When people get together to jam it is more often than not that they run out of ideas and things quickly become stale. In this course you’ll learn how to play with others in a way that continues to open up from chorus to chorus rather than getting bogged down in a repetitive cycle. That’s what we mean in calling it β€œExpand The Jam”.
